DESCRIPTION

General description

Acrylamide (AA) is a neurotoxin and carcinogen. It was found in potato products like, french fries and potato chips and also in several cereal-based products.[1] This highly reactive organic compound has the ability to polymerize to form polyacrylamide.[2]

Application

Acrylamide/bis-acrylamide, 40% solution has been used in the preparation of temperature sensitive tissue-mimicking phantoms.[3] It has also been used in the preparation of polyacrylamide gels for electrophoresis of the PCR products.[4]

Preparation Note

Solution prepared from electrophoresis grade acrylamide and bis-acrylamide in ultra-pure water.
